4. PUBLIC EDUCATION AND TRAINING OFFICER

REF: KNCHR/ADM/PET/04/12/2025

Division: Public Education and Training
Reports to: Deputy Director, Public Education and Training
Grade: KNCHR 6
Location: Nairobi (may be deployed to any Commission Regional Office)
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 100,250

Job Purpose

This position supports the delivery of information, education, communication and sensitization to the public, State and non-State actors on human rights issues, to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights.

Key Responsibilities

a) Support implementation of public education and training programmes.
b) Develop and disseminate customized human rights information, education, communication and training materials.
c) Lead development of human rights training programmes, manuals, modules and curricula for formal and informal learning institutions.
d) Assist in organizing internal and external forums such as meetings, workshops and trainings related to public education and sensitization.
e) Promote programme synergy and linkages with internal and external partners.
f) Create awareness through public forums and use of print, social and electronic media.
g) Generate progress reports on education and training programmes and projects.
h) Provide administrative support for the implementation of public human rights projects in line with the Commission’s Strategic Plan.
i) Collect data to monitor enjoyment of human rights, standards and principles through feedback from public trainings.
j) Draft activity-based progress reports on public education, trainings and all assigned projects for accountability.
k) Assist in quality control of human rights training materials to ensure they are simple, accurate and comprehensive.

Job Specification

Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Sociology, Statistics or other relevant Social Sciences from a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in a comparable position in a reputable organization.

  • Demonstrable experience conducting public training programmes.

  • Experience mobilizing the public to attend sensitization or awareness sessions.

  • Proven experience conducting awareness sessions for diverse audiences.

  • Experience developing educational messages for mainstream and social media audiences.

  • Demonstrable facilitation skills for diverse target groups.

  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Skills in organizing and facilitating public forums in open public spaces.

  • Good understanding of human rights and relevant laws.

  • Strong communication and research skills.

  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
