3. SENIOR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS (ECOSOC) OFFICER

REF: KNCHR/ADM/SECOSOCO/03/12/2025

Reports to: Deputy Director – Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Division
Location: Nairobi (with occasional travel)
Duration: Permanent and Pensionable
Gross Salary: Kshs. 141,950

Job Purpose

This position is responsible for implementing projects, programmes and activities that advance the Commission’s strategic objective of enhancing the realization of Economic, Social and Cultural (ECOSOC) rights for all citizens of Kenya.

 

Job Specification

Operational Responsibilities

a) Facilitate establishment, management and strengthening of partnerships with human rights actors to enhance the Commission’s effectiveness.
b) Implement the Commission’s ECOSOC-related policies, frameworks, procedures, standards, strategies, guidelines and programmes.
c) Develop and design data collection tools and instruments.
d) Conduct research on topical and emerging human rights issues, including data collection, analysis and dissemination of findings.
e) Prepare periodic human rights reports and publications, and contribute to the Commission’s participation in regional and international human rights fora and National Human Rights Institution networks through advisories and statements.
f) Monitor, investigate and report on the status of ECOSOC rights in Kenya.
g) Mentor and coach ECOSOC officers, interns and attachés.
h) Prepare work plans, budget estimates and reports for programme activities.

Skills, Experience and Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of service in a comparable position in a reputable organization.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, International Relations & Diplomacy, Social Sciences or another relevant field from a recognized institution.

  • Knowledge and experience in handling human rights matters.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of national, regional and international human rights mechanisms and instruments.

  • Strong data collection and data analysis skills.

  • Excellent IT skills with working knowledge of relevant software packages.

  • Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
